“Our experience at St. Mary’s was great. My son was very happy with his care, which is saying a lot considering he’s an RRT. He was thankful for the care he received.”

Congratulations to our Champion

Providence St. Mary Medical Center vascular and interventional radiologist, Youhanna Gad, M.D., was one of eight clinicians across the Providence South Division to be recognized with the 2023 Philanthropy Physician Champion Award. The award acknowledges select physicians for their commitment to philanthropy and providing outstanding medical care.

Each Providence ministry nominated physicians from their respective organizations to be honored for their partnership with the foundation. “We are proud to recognize Dr. Gad,” says Nicole Orr, chief philanthropy officer. “He’s a compassionate healer and a true philanthropy ambassador with a deep understanding of the positive impact grateful patients can have on health care in our community.”

Inspired vocation

Dr. Gad credits his father for inspiring him to become a physician during a time when he was also considering technology and engineering. “My dad was always nudging me to do more, give my best,” shares Dr. Gad.  “I felt that as a physician, I could help many people.  It’s a way to serve, a job that’s much more than a job.”

When Dr. Gad finished his fellowship at Loma Linda, he discovered an urgent and growing need for interventional radiology (IR) in the High Desert.

“I wanted to bring IR here, so people didn’t have to go out of the area to get this level of care,” he says. “Today, we are excited to partner with donors to help us expand the program. There is so much more we can do.”

Dr. Gad is dedicated to making Providence St. Mary’s IR capabilities comparable to the best in the world. He balances his vision with his mission to care for the individual. “I want patients who are with me for part of their lives to leave feeling better because I was there,” he says. “I think the caring connection we make person to person is more important to healing than almost anything else.”
