We are impacting lives in Orange County everyday with the generous support of donors.

“Our experience at St. Mary’s was great. My son was very happy with his care, which is saying a lot considering he’s an RRT. He was thankful for the care he received.”
Celebrating The Joy of Giving
Hanley & Glee Heikes Legacy Society Luncheon
There was much to celebrate as we gathered for the fall 2022 Hanley & Glee Heikes Legacy Society Luncheon to honor and thank our dedicated donors who have included Providence St. Mary Medical Center in their estate plans.
During his remarks, executive director, operations and interim chief philanthropy officer, John Kozyra, recognized the remarkable legacy of Hanley and Glee Heikes. Longtime philanthropic leaders within the Apple Valley community, the Heikes helped raise more than $7 million for the medical center and made countless gifts throughout their 30 years of service to the ministry.
John presented the Fredrick and Betty Lou Gross Nursing Scholarship to Donessa Cordero, BSN, R.N., clinical caregiver orientation lead and TIP program lead. Donessa is using the scholarship to achieve her goal of earning a master’s degree in education.
The Fredrick and Betty Lou Gross Nursing Scholarship plays an important role in helping Providence St. Mary retain and recruit the best and brightest nurses for the community. That was evident in John’s fireside chat with Donessa. She gave donors a view of her life balancing work, school, and family and said all the wonderful support she’s received from fellow caregivers and donors has made it all possible.
Randy Castillo, chief executive of Providence St. Mary Medical Center, was delighted and honored to recognize the 2022 Legacy Flame Award recipients: Philip Brown, M.D., Kathy Brown and Rosanne Smith.
An honor bestowed on committed donors who have made a planned gift, the Legacy Flame Award has been a longstanding Foundation tradition for nearly two decades.
Thank you for your support of Providence St. Mary through legacy giving. Your generosity makes our work possible. The words of Glee Heikes echoed throughout the luncheon, “The joy of living is the joy of giving.”
